Antonio Brown looking to make a comeback
The National Football League has plenty to sort out before they can start their regular season in September like planned. With COVID-19 cases surging across the United States, it remains to be seen whether teams will be able to safely travel across the country. However, on Wednesday evening all the news surrounding the league was made by a player who doesn’t even have a team to call his own.
Just two days after teasing his retirement on social media, former Pittsburgh Steelers’ wide receiver Antonio Brown was back at it urging the NFL to wrap up their investigation into his personal conduct.
“The fact that you refuse to provide a deadline and the reason for the fact you won’t resolve your investigations is completely unacceptable,” Brown wrote. “I demand you provide me clarity on this situation immediately if you really care about my wellbeing. My legal team continues to ask and you provide no answers. How is it that the league can just drag it’s feet on any investigation it chooses on players and we just have to sit there in limbo?”
According to Brown, he is waiting for the NFL to reach their conclusion so he can speak to interested teams. At this point though, there are no known teams that have come out to say that they would like to talk to the player.
“Need an update so I can talk to these teams properly,” he wrote. “They’re waiting on you nfl let’s get this thing moving! We’ve got history to make!!”
While Brown is a seven-time Pro Bowler, he has never won the Super Bowl and has become entrenched in controversy in recent years. The Steelers were no longer interested in having Brown part of their team after he caused drama both within and outside of the locker room. In April 2018, he tossed furniture out of his 14th floor apartment, nearly hitting a 22-month old child on the patio below.
Brown hasn’t played since September 2019, after he was released by the New England Patriots. He only managed to play one game for the Patriots before being cut. In November, Brown met with the league to discuss the sexual assault allegations that were brought against him. His former trainer filed a lawsuit against the wide receiver, alleging she had been sexually assaulted by Brown on multiple occasions. A second woman would also come out to accuse Brown of sexual misconduct.
Earlier this year, Brown was involved in several other domestic issues that eventually saw the 32-year-old arrested for burglary and battery after allegedly attacking a moving truck driver at his home. The Hollywood Florida Police Department also disassociated themselves with the former Steeler, as they no longer wanted Brown to be associated with their youth league.
Brown was drafted in the sixth-round (195th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers and has featured in 131 regular season games. His career-high is 136 receptions for 1,834 yards that he reached in 2015 with the Steelers but hasn’t been able to match that output since.
